First Appointment

Well, I went for my first baby-related appointment today! The appointment was set up initially to go over the results of my ultrasound from last week (regarding a possible cyst), but they said the doctor would be able to discuss my positive tests too (I took another one on Tuesday morning - even more positive!). I met with Dr. Scott in the orphan clinic, she is new and can't be more than 30 and is super nice! She told me there were no cyst's showing, but there was some excess fluid which is most likely from a cyst bursting, hence the pain. Then she congratulated me and went through my past cycles and dates and whatnot to find a due date - she calculated November 25th as the due date, but that is based on a regular cycle and mine is a little longer so I think it will be closer to early December. Then she got me all set up for ultrasounds and screening and bloodwork. I have 5 appointments booked already (3 ultrasounds and 2 clinic appointments) and 2 dates that I have to drop in for more blood work at the hospital. They also did bloodwork today - 6 viles, yikes!

Also, more exciting news, she is going to take Matt and I on as patients so we are no longer "orphans". She is sort of taking new patients, but they have to do random selection from the orphan clinic patients, but she said she takes on anyone prenatal because she realizes that we really need to have a Doctor and because then she gets to see lots of babies.

They said I can expect the results from the blood work today by Monday which will confirm the pregnancy 100%. My first ultrasound is booked for April 20th which will be a dating ultrasound to get a better idea of a due date.

Very exciting day! :)

25 Random Things

I've seen these all over, ranging from 25-100 random things...I couldn't think of more so I just did 25...maybe I'll add to it later

  1. I love a good thunderstorm
  2. I've never broken a bone or had stitches
  3. Somedays I feel like I could lay in bed all day (with Toby snuggling), but don't think I could actually ever do it
  4. I used to LOVE sleeping in and having it completely dark, now I get up early and like the light shining in
  5. All of my best friends live way too far away
  6. I want to plant a vegetable garden this year, but fear it will be a waste of money when I kill everything
  7. I want nothing more than to be a stay-at-home Mum
  8. I have so many crafty ideas, but rarely follow through on them
  9. I love just about anything with caramel or peanut butter
  10. I love to bake and probably should have gone to school to be a pastry chef so I would have someone else to eat it all
  11. I hate the taste of coffee, but love the smell
  12. I want to travel more, but am also happy being home with our little family
  13. I am addicted to facebook and livejournal! (help!)
  14. Matt and I really do treat Toby like our child
  15. We have decided that if Toby were human he would speak Spanish and be part Mexican
  16. I used to be afraid of public speaking, now I don't mind it at all
  17. Since starting at this job I have been in the newspaper more times that I can count
  18. David and I used to make fun of my Mum for crying at the slightest things...now that is me!
  19. I have never lived alone and always kind of wondered what it would be like
  20. I love to get into a good book, but usually forget most of it after reading
  21. Similarly, I can never remember movie titles or if I have seen them
  22. I love to scrapbook, but hate that having a digital camera means never having 'actual' pictures on hand
  23. My parent initially thought of naming me Laura Jane...that would have been way too many Laura's in our group!
  24. I wish we were vegitarian, but we love chicken too much
  25. I used to hate my handwriting, now I just dislike it

Lucky?

Would it be a horrible idea to use Lucky as a middle name for our little hairless puppy (baby)? I've been pulled over twice recently for speeding and was let go with a warning each time - I think s/he must be my lucky charm!

It first happened this past Saturday when we were on our way home from purchasing our new HHR (that I get to pick up today!!!). I was on the shore road and got stopped at a ride program which they also had a speed trap set up at and I was clocked doing 63 in the 40 - he just told me to slow down. Oops.

They yesterday on my way home from work in my Mums car (mine is sitting waiting to be traded in/blow up) I was clocked doing 89 in a 60 - double oops! Of course he was sitting at the spot just about where it turns from 60 to 80! I think he felt uncomfortable when I told him I was having a crappy day (I lied) and started to well up with tears - he just wanted to get out of there so he told me to slow down!

Now, maybe I should take heed and actually slow down!

telling "Daddy"

Well, Matt is in-the-know now! I picked up a cute, simple Thank You card today (the only blank one I could find in the drugstore) and wrote a little blurb thanking him for being a wonderful husband and a great Dad to Toby and Bane and our human child too...then added, 'that's right, we're pregnant!' to the end. I thought he wouldn't expect anything because exchanging cards isn't something irregular with us, but I was really hoping to catch his reaction on camera so I was pretending to mess around with the camera acting like there was something wrong with it. As soon as he started opening the card I turned on the video. As he got to the end of the card he had a HUGE smile on his face and he started doing his cute giggle. I couldn't keep taping because I had to run over and hug and kiss him! :) He was very excited too, and probably happy to not have to hear me whining every month when the dreaded period got here. Unfortunately he said he thought something was up because of the camera.

Speaking of "telling" - I can't wait to tell everyone else! I want to talk to the Dr. or Midwife before we tell anyone (like parents and very close friends), but I know it's going to be hard to keep it in! I would really like to be able to tell Elsie and Randi this weekend while we are together this weekend before Elsie and Ella take off for England, but I think it might be too soon.

the test!

I took a pregnancy test this morning at 4am and was SO excited to see the two lines I have been waiting to see since October. I couldn't get back to sleep and just layed there until 5 when the alarm went off for Matt. I decided not to tell him this morning because I wanted to be able to spend time together after and be excited together, not in a rush for him to get off to work. I'm trying to think of a cute way to tell him tonight, but I will probably just end up spilling it to him because I am so excited!

I was expecting my period last Friday and actually went for an ultrasound that day to check for cysts (due to some pain I had a few weeks prior) and I had joked with Matt that I was actually hoping that the tech would find a baby rather than a cyst! She wasn't able to tell me anything, she just took a lot of images and measurements and told me we would hear from the orphan clinic the following week. Now I'm wondering if I should call them and let them know we need an appointment for a different, more exciting reason!

Luckily I haven't felt any morning sickness yet (knock on wood), and according to an online calculator I am in my 5th week right now - prime sickness time. I have to pee a lot and feel bloated, but other than that, I feel great!
More later after I tell Matt! :)
